Ann Curry

Ann Curry is a photojournalist, journalist and author who has reported on conflict zones over the last more than 45 years. Her research focuses on human suffering and disasters. Curry has covered the conflict zones of Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo and the Central African Republic. Ann Curry was an American journalist, news reporter on TV and host who is best known for her work as a reporter on the Today program a morning broadcast news program aired on NBC. Curry became known in particular for her reporting of human rights crises, natural disasters and other emergencies which occurred in war-ravaged areas. Curry is the daughter of a U.S. Navy sailor and a Japanese woman. Her mother was stationed alongside their father during Japan in the aftermath of World War II. Her father was a member of the military, so her family moved around frequently. Curry completed high school within Ashland Oregon. Her graduation with a journalist diploma from the University of Oregon in 1978. She was exposed to a variety of cultures and experiences during her growing up years is likely to have influenced the compassion in her approach to global issues. Curry's family relocated often, so Curry was not able to stay at a single school longer than 2 months. Curry attended various schools including San Diego Alameda Oregon Virginia and Virginia. Finally, she graduated Ashland High School. Her first job could lead to a successful career by working as an intern in broadcasting for KTVL Channel 10 Medford. The first female news reporter at the station when she was just 22. She subsequently moved to the post of anchor as well as reporter at KGW which was an NBC station in Portland, Oregan. In the course of four years, she was hired as reporter for KCBS TV located in Los Angeles. She received the award of two Emmy Awards during the six years she spent with this station.
